  1. Hawaiian food is different from “local food from Hawai’i.” The latter is food that has influences from the different ethnic groups from the plantation days. Workers were hired from the Philippines, China. Japan, Puerto Rico, etc. and at lunch time food was shared which influenced the amalgamate that is now called “local” food if you live in Hawai’i. Hawaiian food are dishes like poi, kalua puaʻa, laulau, etc.. dishes that were eaten by the native Hawaiian people.
