This video documents my trip from Los Angeles to Hawaii. I spent 27 days alone at sea aboard my small Ranger 23 sailboat.

I love how sam just talks through what he is doing. its very fun to watch, his video of him sailing form bermuda to azores is super cool too.
when sailing solo how do you avoid hitting other ships when sleeping?
Tim Teplow (sp?) did this trip with a Potter 19 trailer sailor! A Montgomery 15 did this trip and the sailor said “boring” lol
Nice job sir. I am planning this trip in 2025 on my 17’ er.
Just found you and subscribed! Also, you're Mr. Beast right?
I’m so intrigued that he can smell land and was really hoping for an explanation. What does land smell like???
i know you said its a jetboil but i cant find one that hangs and pivots like that.
I am going to hawie in September but I am going on plane not seal boat
29:52 cheering for pasta? Haha mad respect for your passages! Happy sailing man.
Alot of people saying it would be frightening or creepy jumping into the ocean… for me personally it's on my bucket list! I'd love to do this!
is it safe to jump in the water when you're alone like that?
You must have a viking blood line, as it seems that if it floats, you'll sail it. Really good blog as usual.
where do you poop and pee, who stirs the boat while you sleep?
how do you not get sea sick!?!?? The few times I've been on a boat in the ocean I was down BAD! Is it something you get used to??
You have two unique talents: Courageous adventures and how you film it! Luv it!!
Sam,
I LOVE your debate at 0:32:59, it reminds me of the saying, "there are two types of sailors, those who are afraid when they can't see land & those who are afraid when they can see land"!
Your video reminded me of my crossing from San Fransico to Hawaii in the 1996 Pacific Cup Race, aboard the good ship "Moonshadow" – Deerfoot 2-62", Thank you!!! Fair Winds & calm seas ~~~~
Sam. What do you think is a workable size for transpacific or transatlantic sailing? I'm considering a catalina 30. Would this be a bad choice?
How did you not sink from those waves
Awesome job Sam !
The scopalene patch behind the ear are amazing. I had part of my skull removed and my brain was covered partly by skin and I would get sick riding in a car in just 30minutesuntil I was given that h behind the ear. It was like a miracle.
I never realized Mr Beast was a sailor!
I appreciate people like Sam. I know I’ll never do this because I’d be over it by the end of the first day, but I can live vicariously through a crazy human being. It also makes me appreciate what my Dutch ancestors went through while sailing to America in the late 1600’s. That must have sucked. Lol.
Thank you for sharing. What an adventure!
Very interesting. You sailed to Hawaii on a boat the same length as Robin Lee Graham navigated around the globe. I can't even imagine in my wildest dreams…. Do you prefer the very small boats or is it generally more comfortable/comforting to sail a 30+ft vessel?
I love smoking a cigar, having a beer and watching your adventures. We love u Sam.
Ps. Those big ships you see reminds me of a star wars movie.😁
Hey man what are the best apps to use when doing long passages?
Can you let us know how you sleep at night? Drop anchor, drift or keep sails up with auto pilot, run engine with auto pilot etc. I think that would freak me out and I would never get any sleep.
You are an inspiration, awesome and hope to buy you a beer some day
SAM HAS NAMED HIS BOATS SOME GOOFY NAMES LIKE, PICKLED HERING… KINDA GOOFY!
This guy is the Disney princess of the sea.
What an amazing journey
I'd imagine some of those birds were blown out to sea. Some that I've seen seem just completely drained.
Great video but I gotta say; That cabin has more leaks in it then the US Government.
You seem to be very happy and contented with this type of lifestyle , thanks for sharing Sam and stay safe Man !
This is what drug rehabs should be like
A regular Henry David Thoreau on the high seas, improvising every league (or so) of his voyage !
How did you get the weather?
I will make my dream become true too. I was thinking in buying a 35 feet, but I will buy a 23 feet. I have to learn how to sail, but I will.
Solo Sam ,,, STILL RACKING UP VIEWS
Wow beautiful place
I know you have safety lines and your boat is stopped, but you def have to have balls to jump off your boat in the middle of the ocean potentially hundreds of miles from the nearest person. Although I'm sure I too would be diving in head first after a week without a shower.
How many days did it take?
You are definitely an optimist my friend! Proof that you don’t have to have a pristine sailboat to grab life by the hand!
Never been sailing but your one brave mother fooker dude. Subscribed
Hilo is my hometown. Hit me up next time you're planning on coming. 😉🤙🏼🤙🏼✌
Wouldn't have minded a little bit more at the end. 🙂
I wouldn’t dare do that alone.
my dad single handed a home built a 40' tri maran into hilo from sandeago he said it was 28 days of sitting naked on the deck playing banjo for the fishes
